Srinagar, April 21— As the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway collapsed on Sunday, leading to a complete suspension of traffic for at least three to five days, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir V K Bidhuri on Monday assured the public that there is no shortage of essential supplies in the Valley.
“There is no need to line up at petrol pumps or panic. The situation is normal and under control,” Bidhuri told reporters in Srinagar.
He said Kashmir currently has enough stocks of food grains, LPG, diesel, and petrol to last several days even without fresh supplies via the highway.
“We have food grains stocked for over a year, and LPG supplies are sufficient for the next 17 days,” he said.
Bidhuri said Kashmir consumes about 1,000 kilolitres of diesel daily and has 12,500 kilolitres in reserve—enough for nearly 13 days. For petrol, where daily consumption stands at 625 kilolitres, there are 10,000 kilolitres available.
“There’s absolutely no need to hoard or worry. We’re fully prepared,” he added, urging people to avoid panic buying.
