Srinagar, Mar 20 — Traffic authorities on Friday issued an advisory ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, urging the public to follow regulations and ensure children’s safety, with special arrangements put in place for the main congregation at the Dargah on the city outskirts.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Ajaz Ahmed Bhat said, “Arrangements for the major Eid congregation at the Dargah on city outskirts have been finalised.”

Detailing the parking plan, he said, “Vehicles coming from Tailbal and Habbak have been allocated parking at Naseem Bagh. Vehicles from Dalgate and Downtown areas can enter through Sir Syed Gate of University, where parking spaces are arranged.” He added that “for the elderly, rickshaw services are available to reach Asar-e-Sharif comfortably.”

The officer raised concern over reckless driving by minors, stating, “Many teenagers take bikes without supervision, causing accidents and distress to families and society.” He added that traffic police “take action against violators, including their parents, wherever notices are served.”

Issuing an appeal to parents, Bhat said, “Keep your children and their bikes under control. If someone gives a child a license, ensure they wear proper gear, especially helmets, and drive safely.” He noted that “on Eid, we often see laxity in supervision,” urging families to prevent unsafe activities.

“Until people understand the value of being responsible citizens, accidents will continue. Let’s make Eid a time of celebration, safety and responsibility,” he said.
