Bandipora, May 8 — Three youths died after drowning in the Jhelum river in Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Friday, officials said.
The incident occurred in the Check Chandergeer area when the youths were washing tent material along the banks of the river, officials said.
Locals and volunteers immediately launched a rescue operation after the trio slipped into the river. Two bodies were retrieved during the initial operation, while the third body was recovered later, officials said.
Earlier, one of the youths had been rescued and shifted to a nearby hospital, where he was later declared dead.
The deceased have been identified as Adil Ahmad Dar (18), son of Bashir Ahmad Dar; Sameer Ahmad Dar (22), son of Mohammad Jamal Dar; and Sohail Ahmad Dar (22), son of Ghulam Nabi Dar — all residents of Chandergeer, Hajin.
Officials said the bodies were shifted to a nearby hospital for medico-legal formalities.
