Srinagar, Octoberr 23, 2024 – Higher reaches in north Kashmir’s Bandipora and Kupwara received fresh snowfall on Wednesday, with meteorologists predicting more snow in Sonamarg and surrounding areas through Thursday.
According to reports, Razdan Pass in Gurez Valley, along with other high-altitude locations in Kupwara, received fresh snow, causing temperatures to dip across the Kashmir Valley.
"Snowfall in these areas has led to a noticeable drop in temperatures," an official said.
Srinagar, the capital, recorded a maximum temperature of 22.8°C today, down from 25.2°C yesterday.
South Kashmir’s Qazigund, often called the gateway to Kashmir, saw temperatures fall to 23.0°C from 25.2°C, while Kupwara’s high fell from 26.5°C to 24.2°C.
The Meteorological Department has also forecast light rain and snow in the higher reaches of north Kashmir and Sonamarg late tonight and into tomorrow morning.
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Meteorological Department, stated, "We expect mostly dry weather between October 25 and October 27."
He further added that on October 28 and 29, cloudy conditions could bring light rain and snow to northern and central Kashmir, particularly in the evening or night hours.
Dry conditions are anticipated from October 30 through November 2.
In an advisory, the department urged farmers to continue harvesting and ensure the safe storage of crops, as well as proceed with other agricultural activities.
