Jammu, Feb 3 — The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday admitted that payments worth over Rs 70 crore under the Marriage Assistance Scheme are pending for thousands of approved beneficiaries, even as it denied any delay on its part in releasing the funds.
The treasury operates under the UT Finance Department, which functions within the Lieutenant Governor’s administration.
In a written reply to a question by legislator Javid Hassan Baig, the Social Welfare Department said bills amounting to Rs 70.08 crore have been lying in the treasury for clearance since October 2025.
“These cases have already been sanctioned and are under process, with payments awaiting treasury clearance. There is no undue delay on our part,” the department said.
The government informed the House that during the current financial year, it has already disbursed Rs 163.93 crore to 31,524 beneficiary girls under the scheme.
It further said that sanctions have been issued for 12,777 additional beneficiaries, whose payments remain pending due to procedural processing of bills.
