Jammu, Feb 12— Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday assured the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly that the government would prioritise accuracy over speed in the digitisation of land records, saying only verified and correct entries would be taken online.

Intervening during supplementary questions in the Question Hour, Abdullah acknowledged flaws in the existing land record system and said complaints had been received from people whose land was either wrongly recorded or missing from official records.

“There should be no haste. We are not in a race to complete the process within six months. Accuracy is the priority,” the Chief Minister told the House.

“We will take the required time to ensure that no incorrect records are digitised.”

He said suggestions made by Assembly members would be taken into account while implementing corrective measures to address errors in land records.

Earlier, Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology and Environment, and Tribal Affairs Javed Ahmed Rana, replying on behalf of the Chief Minister, said 15,516 non–quasi-judicial errors had been identified and corrected on the spot by field agencies in the tehsils of Devsar, Frisal and Qaimoh.

Rana informed the House that 185 quasi-judicial errors in digitised Jamabandis were detected during public verification and had been referred to the competent authorities for further action. He said the rectification process was ongoing, after which the Jamabandis would be read publicly.

The minister also clarified that no proprietary land was lost during recent floods in Kulgam district.

In a separate disclosure, Rana said that in Tehsil Qaimoh, a landless beneficiary had been allotted five marlas of land under the PMAY-G scheme.
