Poonch: One of the five Indian Air Force personnel injured in the Poonch ambush attack has succumbed to his injuries.

Reportedly, two military vehicles, including one of the IAF, were ambushed by suspected militants in Shah Sattar forest area, which falls between Surankote’s Sanai Top and Mendhar’s Gursai area of Pir Panchal region’s Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir.

They were all airlifted to the Command Hospital in Udhampur for further treatment, officials said.

A Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched, followed by a brief exchange of fire. However, reports suggest that the suspected militants managed to escape from the area.

Visuals from the attack site showed at least a dozen bullet holes on the windscreen of one of the vehicles.

This marks the first major attack on the armed forces in the region this year.

The region experienced a series of attacks against the military last year and this is the second militant attack in the last 12 days.

Poonch is part of the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary constituency, which is scheduled to go to polls in the sixth phase on May 25 after the Election Commission of India deferred the polls based on the recommendation of the Apni Party, BJP, PC, and DPAP.
