Srinagar, April 22— With the Jammu-Srinagar Highway shut for the third consecutive day, authorities on Tuesday allowed two-way movement of light motor vehicles (LMVs) on the Mughal Road — a strategic alternative that connects Kashmir with Jammu through the Pir Panchal range.

An official said that LMVs, including passenger vehicles, are being permitted to ply from both sides between 9 AM and 3 PM.

Heerpora has been set as the cut-off point for regulating traffic.

“Commuters are urged to follow the prescribed timing and take necessary precautions while travelling on the route,” the official added.

Engineers from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said that nearly 4 to 5 kilometers of the Jammu-Srinagar highway were washed away in Ramban district following Sunday’s flash floods.

The disaster triggered landslides at 22 locations, leaving several vehicles buried under debris and killing three people. Over 100 people were rescued.

Officials estimate that full restoration of the highway could take up to five more days.
