Srinagar: The meteorological department has predicted light rains starting Tuesday, offering relief from the scorching heat until June 8.
Director of the Meteorological Department (MeT), Mukhtar Ahmad, said that the rains are expected to end the prevailing hot weather conditions in Kashmir.
However, he noted that no major relief is expected in the plains of Jammu. Despite the possibility of light rains, the maximum temperature there would continue to hover around 40 degrees Celsius.
He added that with the possibility of gusty winds, both the plains and the higher reaches of Kashmir would receive light rains. He also stated that the higher reaches of the Pir Panchal and Chenab regions will receive rainfall from tomorrow afternoon.
"The wet spell is expected to continue from June 4 to June 8, while hot and dry weather conditions are expected from June 9 to June 13," he said.
Notably, hot and dry weather conditions have persisted for the last several weeks, with Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir recording record-breaking temperatures.
