Srinagar/Jammu, Jan 16 — The Jammu and Kashmir Medical Council (JKMC) recorded a steep rise in medical registrations in 2025, processing 2,381 permanent registrations — an 80 per cent increase over 1,324 registrations in 2024, according to official data.
Officials said the surge reflects growing inflow of doctors into the region, including foreign medical graduates, postgraduate trainees and doctors from outside J&K.

Of the total, 939 were Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) permanent registrations, more than double the 584 recorded last year. The Council also granted permanent registration to 1,252 graduates from medical colleges within Jammu and Kashmir.
In addition, 190 doctors received permanent reciprocal registration. Officials said such registration is mandatory for doctors from outside J&K who come to the UT for medical services or are selected for postgraduate courses under NEET-PG and DNB programmes in local institutions.
“The rise in reciprocal and FMG registrations indicates increased professional movement and training activity in J&K,” an official associated with the Council said.
Beyond permanent enrolments, the Council processed 1,045 additional registrations during the year, pointing to increased demand for professional mobility and certification. It also issued 783 No Objection Certificates (NOCs) and 231 Good Standing Certificates, while facilitating 125 Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits.
Data further shows that between 2021 and 2025, JKMC handled 6,082 permanent registrations, with 2025 alone accounting for nearly 40 per cent of the five-year total. Officials attributed the volume to streamlined procedures at the Council’s Jammu and Srinagar offices.
The Council said it would continue to focus on regulatory oversight and ethical standards for medical professionals practising in Jammu and Kashmir.
