J&K Sees 79% Deficit Rainfall

Srinagar, Feb 14 — Jammu and Kashmir has recorded a large deficit in rainfall over the past one and a half months, with Jammu’s Kathua topping the list at 97 per cent deficiency from January 1 to February 12, 2025.
 
According to details, J&K recorded a deficit rainfall of 79 per cent. Against the normal precipitation of 140 mm, only 29.8 mm was recorded during this period.
 
As per the data, Jammu recorded a deficit rainfall of 94 per cent, while Udhampur and Samba districts saw a deficiency of 92 per cent each.
 
Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a deficit rainfall of 82 per cent, while seven other places—including Shopian, Reasi, Ramban, Kulgam, Doda, Budgam, and Anantnag—recorded a deficiency between 80 and 89 per cent.
 
Pulwama, Kupwara, Bandipora, and Baramulla districts recorded a deficiency between 70 and 79 per cent, according to the data. Four districts—Poonch, Rajouri, Kishtwar, and Ganderbal—recorded a deficiency between 60 and 69 per cent.
 
All districts across the region have been categorized as having a large deficiency, the data reveals.
 
Meanwhile, the weatherman has predicted dry weather conditions till tomorrow.
 
Director of the Meteorological Department, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, said that on February 16, the weather would remain partly to generally cloudy, with light rain and snow expected at isolated higher reaches of north and central Kashmir, mainly towards the evening and night.
 
On February 17-18, partly to generally cloudy weather is expected, with a possibility of a brief spell of light rain and snow at isolated higher reaches, he said, adding that nothing significant is expected until February 18.
 
On February 19 and 20, generally cloudy weather is expected, with the possibility of light rain and snow at scattered places from the night of the 19th to the afternoon of the 20th, Dr. Ahmad said, adding that partly cloudy weather with a possibility of light rain and snow is expected at isolated places on February 21 and 22.
