J&K Administration Reconstitutes Committee to Identify 'Illegal Foreigners'

Srinagar: The administration of Jammu and Kashmir under LG Manoj Sinha has reconstituted a committee to identify foreign nationals illegally living across Jammu and Kashmir since January 1st, 2011.

In an order, the administration said: “In supersession to the Government Order No. 494-Home of 2023 dated 13.10.2023, sanction is hereby accorded to the reconstitution of the Committee with the following composition to identify foreign nationals illegally overstaying in the UT of J&K since 01.01.2011.”

The committee members include the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO), BOI, Amritsar, Punjab; Senior Superintendent of Police, CID, Special Branch, Jammu; Senior Superintendent of Police, CID, Special Branch, Srinagar; Senior Superintendent of Police, CID, Headquarters, J&K; All District SSPs/SPs (FRO); and State Coordinators, IVFRT, NIC, J&K.

The order further states that the Senior Superintendent of Police, CID Headquarters, J&K, shall act as the Nodal Officer on the subject. This officer is tasked with compiling and preparing monthly reports of missing/illegally staying foreign nationals in J&K and submitting the report by the 5th day of every month to the Home Department.

The officer has been directed to coordinate and follow up on activities between FRRO and FROs regarding tracking and deporting foreign nationals staying illegally in J&K. The officer must also monitor the progress achieved on these issues and report to the Home Department on a regular basis.

Additionally, the SSP CID headquarters is responsible for disseminating, communicating, and circulating information between FRRO and FROs pertaining to various sub-judice cases on the subject in different courts, and regularly updating and informing the status of these cases to the concerned quarters.

The Nodal Officer will also monitor the capturing of biographic and biometric details of illegal migrants and report the progress to the Home Department after compiling information from FROs.

The officer will maintain an up-to-date digital record on a regular basis of those illegally staying in J&K.
