Srinagar, Jan 05: Dense fog and poor visibility led to the suspension of flight operations at Srinagar Airport on Sunday.
All scheduled flights for the day were canceled as low visibility made it impossible for aircraft to land or take off, an official said.
Foggy weather, coupled with sub-zero temperatures, is also creating significant challenges for commuters in Srinagar, with poor visibility and icy roads increasing risks across the city.
Officials reported that visibility at Srinagar Airport dropped to 300 meters over the past few days, resulting in frequent flight delays and cancellations. This disruption has affected both inbound and outbound air traffic, leaving many passengers stranded.
On the roads, commuters voiced concerns about non-functional traffic lights and unclear lane markings, which, they said, make navigating the dense fog even more difficult. “Driving has become extremely difficult. With fog and defunct traffic signals, accidents feel inevitable,” a local resident remarked.
“The frozen roads are treacherous, especially in the early morning hours. We feel unsafe traveling in such conditions,” another commuter said.
