Gurez, March 3 — An avalanche and a flash flood struck Barnoi Tulail village in north Kashmir’s Gurez on Monday, damaging 14 residential properties and storage structures.
Murtaza Ahmad, a resident, said homes and ration storage facilities were severely affected.
Others echoed similar concerns, urging the government to provide immediate relief for those impacted.
Meanwhile, several villages remain without electricity, with residents demanding urgent restoration of power and road connectivity.
Tulail Valley is a remote, high-altitude region in Gurez, located in Bandipora district of north Kashmir. It lies along the Line of Control (LoC), close to Pakistan-controlled Gilgit-Baltistan.
While Ladakh is geographically accessible via Bagtore (in Gurez) towards Mushkoh Valley in Drass. However, the route from Gurez to Ladakh is closed to civilians and primarily used by the military.
Usually, the road via Razdan Pass remains closed during winter, but this Chillai Kalan, it stayed open. Now, with snowfall in Chill Bach, back-to-back avalanches are being reported in the region.
