Srinagar: As Jailed leader engineer Rashid slayed two giants- former Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah and Peoples Conference chairperson Sajjad Gani Lone by a margin of more than two lakh votes in north Kashmir, his son 22-year-old Abrar Rashid, who campaigned for his father behalf disclosed that it only required Rs 27,000 to run a successful campaign.

“The mandate is the victory of the people,” said Abrar.

Abrar said the massive mandate for his father is proof of his innocence and he should be released immediately to represent his people.

Abdullah conceded defeat when the counting of votes was still underway expressing doubts about Rashid’s release from the prison.

“I don’t believe his victory will hasten his release from prison nor will the people of North Kashmir get the representation they have a right to but the voters have spoken and in a democracy that’s all that matters,” Omar said.

Sheikh Rashid, known as Engineer Rashid has been in Tihar jail for the last five years on alleged militancy funding charges.

Despite the commencement of Abrar's campaign, he actively encouraged people to rally behind his father, acknowledging financial constraints within their campaign fund.

Concurrently, residents from northern and central regions of Kashmir demonstrated their support by attending and actively participating in his rallies, utilizing their personal vehicles for transportation.
