Srinagar, March 20 —Former Gurez MLA and senior BJP leader Faqeer Mohammad Khan allegedly shot himself dead at his government-allocated quarters in Srinagar’s high-security Tulsibagh area on Thursday.
Officials told KDC that Khan was found in a pool of blood inside Quarter Number 9A, reportedly using the service rifle of one of his personal security officers (PSOs).
He was rushed to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of his death.
Faqeer Mohammad Khan served as an independent Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Gurez after winning the 1996 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.
In the 2024 Assembly elections, he contested the Gurez (ST) seat as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate but was defeated by Nazir Ahmad Khan Gurezi of the National Conference by a margin of 1,049 votes.
