Chandigarh, Jan 16 — Flight operations at Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport were severely disrupted on Friday due to dense fog and poor visibility, causing multiple cancellations, diversions, and long delays.
The IndiGo flight from Hyderabad scheduled to land at 12:05 pm was diverted to Jaipur. Most arrivals and departures were delayed by four to five hours, with some early-morning flights cancelled.
“The visibility was extremely poor, which forced us to delay and reschedule several flights for safety reasons,” an airport official said.
The first departure of the day took off at 11:49 am to Lucknow (6E146), followed by flights to Delhi (6E2315) and Mumbai (6E5261) at 11:57 am and 12:04 pm. The first arrival, from Mumbai, was scheduled at 8:20 am but touched down only at 11:55 am. Early morning arrivals from Delhi, Pune, Jaipur, and Bengaluru were cancelled.
Goa flight 6E6056, scheduled at 9:50 am, now departing at 1:30 pm. Srinagar arrival at 12:55 pm delayed; departure rescheduled from 2:10 pm to 6:55 pm. Delhi flight 6E2195, scheduled at 12:35 pm, now at 2:50 pm.
International flight from Abu Dhabi (6E1417) expected at 1:40 pm.
Moreover, departures to Delhi (6E6742) and Jaipur (6E7719) scheduled at 7:10 am and 7:35 am were cancelled.
Passengers were advised to check with airlines before travelling.
