London, 21 February 2025 — Anti-Muslim hate crimes and incidents in the United Kingdom hit an all-time high in 2024, a new report from Tel MAMA has revealed.
The monitoring organization, which tracks hate crimes and assaults against Muslims, reported 5,837 incidents last year—an alarming rise from 3,767 in 2023 and 2,201 in 2022.
The data, which includes both online and in-person attacks, shows a staggering 165% increase in just two years.
Tel MAMA attributes much of the surge to the ongoing war on Gaza, citing the 15-month-long offensive as a key reason of online anti-Muslim sentiment.
"The Middle East conflict super-fueled online anti-Muslim hate," said a spokesperson for Tel MAMA.
"The Israel war on Gaza, along with the Southport murders and riots, created a surge in anti-Muslim hate cases."
Iman Atta, director of Tel MAMA, called on the public to unite against extremism.
"We urge those in positions of influence to consider how their language may contribute to stereotyping and fostering hatred in our communities," Atta added.
