New Delhi, Oct 21: A Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) on Wednesday ordered the release of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, officials said.
The order came after the two leaders were produced before the magistrate, with their sureties also submitted during the proceedings.
Delhi Police had sought a three-day extension of their judicial custody, which was due to expire on Wednesday, police sources said.
Das and Ranka were initially remanded to five days of judicial custody on October 14 after being detained for allegedly entering the denotified protest site at Jantar Mantar and violating peace bonds. Their custody was subsequently extended by two days on October 19.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Delhi High Court declined to intervene in the matter, asking the two leaders to await the outcome of the proceedings before the SEM and approach the appellate court if their grievances persisted.
