Nashband/Ramban, 19 February 2025: A man detained in a theft case at Batote Police Station in Ramban district died Tuesday evening at the Community Health Center (CHC) Batote, with a magisterial inquiry launched into the circumstances of his death
The deceased, identified as Abid Ahmad, son of Mohammad Aslam from Thopal Batote, had been arrested in connection with the theft of equipment from the Oxygen plant at Batote Hospital.
Police sources mentioned that he was taken into custody a few days ago.
On Tuesday afternoon, Abid complained of abdominal pain and was taken to Batote government hospital for treatment.
“He was discharged and returned to the police station but was rushed back to the hospital around 6 p.m. in an unconscious state.”
Hospital officials stated he was declared dead on arrival.
Following the incident, District Magistrate Ramban, Baseer ul Haq Choudhury, ordered a magisterial inquiry.
