Hajin, May 8 — Two persons are feared drowned after three men slipped into the Jhelum river in Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Friday, officials said.
The incident took place when the trio was washing tents along the banks of the river, officials said.
“One of them accidentally slipped into the river, following which the other two jumped in to rescue him but were swept away by the strong current,” an official said.
He said one of the men was rescued by locals and shifted to a nearby health facility, while the remaining two are still missing.
Rescue teams, including police personnel and local volunteers, have launched a search operation in the area to trace the missing men.
The identities of the victims had not been ascertained till the filing of this report.
