Sopore: Hundreds of fruit growers staged a peaceful protest demonstration on Wednesday inside the fruit Mandi, Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district against halting of fruit laden trucks along the Srinagar- Jammu national highway.

Reports said that the fruit growers were demanding smooth transportation of fruit laden trucks along the national highway.

President of the Fruit Mandi Sopore, Fayaz Ahmed Malik said that they have already suffered heavy losses from the past several years due to many factors like weather extremes, untimely snowfall and blockage of trucks during the Amarnath pilgrimage, now we don’t understand why the fruit-laden trucks are being stopped unnecessarily.

“Halting trucks are increasing our miseries,” he said.

He alleged that it looks like authorities are deliberately making them suffer.

Notably, trucks were earlier stopped in view of the Amarnath Yatra, however, following protests and several representations, LG Sinha passed directions to the concerned officials not to stop the fruit laden trucks along NH-44.
