Sopore: Protests over drinking water shortage
continue to surge, now residents of Shangargund village of Sopore in north Kashmir on Monday held a protest over water scarcity in their locality, accusing the Jal Shakti (water) department of failing to provide them with drinking water.
The residents said that they have been facing an acute shortage of drinking water for the last few weeks while the concerned department has failed to redress the issue.
"There is no drinking water in our village and we are being compelled to drink unhygienic water which is posing serious health issues", they alleged.
The agitated residents blocked Sopore - Kupwara highway, thus resulted into the traffic jams, however, the traffic movement was restored shortly after police intervention.
They appealed to the authorities to address the issue soonest so that they could heave a sigh of relief.
