Srinagar: A civilian was killed in an alleged accidental fire when a trooper’s rifle went off at a checkpoint in the Haal area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday, police said.
A senior police officer said that the rifle of one of the personnel on Naka (check-post) duty went off accidentally and a fire hit a young boy in the area.
He was identified as Asif Ahmed, resident of Poterwal, Shopian. His age was not mentioned, however, he must have been in his 20s as per the available photograph of the deceased.
The civilian suffered critical injuries and was shifted to nearby hospital, the officer said.
Owning to critical condition, he said, the civilian was shifted to SMHS hospital in Srinagar where he succumbed to the injuries.
Police have registered a case in this regard, the officer said.
