Yemen, March 16 — At least 50 people were killed and over 100 injured in US airstrikes on Yemen, days after Houthi-led forces reaffirmed their blockade on Israeli-linked vessels in the Red Sea, Arabian Sea, Bab El-Mandab Strait, and the Gulf of Aden.
The health ministry confirmed the deaths, stating that multiple locations, including Sanaa’s Attan area and Dahyan in Saada, were targeted.
The Supreme Political Council in Sanaa condemned the strikes, calling them blatant American aggression and vowing retaliation.
“Targeting civilians proves US weakness; this will not deter us from supporting Gaza but will instead escalate the situation to something even stronger and more severe,” it said in a statement.
The Ansarallah political bureau linked the strikes directly to Yemen’s support for Palestine, warning that any escalation would be met with force. “
Our armed forces are fully prepared to confront escalation with escalation,” it declared.
A senior Yemeni official told Al Mayadeen that the US was acting to “protect the Israeli occupation entity,” accusing Washington of prioritizing Israeli interests.
The US justified the strikes as a response to Houthi attacks on Red Sea shipping.
US President Donald Trump, writing on Truth Social, claimed, “Funded by Iran, the Houthi thugs have fired missiles at US aircraft, and targeted our Troops and Allies.”
Meanwhile, the BBC reported that while the UK did not participate in the strikes, it provided refueling support for US operations.
