Srinagar: Two persons accused of being ‘notorious thieves’ from Barthana area of Qamarwari were arrested on Wednesday in Srinagar.
They were identified as Basit Ahmad Baba, son of Mohd Yusuf Baba and Faisal Ahmad Ganai, son of Nazir Ahmad Ganai, both residents of Bharthana Qamarwari. However, their age was not mentioned.
A senior police officer said they had launched a hunt against them after receiving complaints of thefts in Srinagar district.
“We have recovered stolen material from their possession and do expect to make more recoveries”, the officer said.
“CCTV footage played a huge role in the investigation,” he added.
Notably, Srinagar police had in the month of April urged business establishments in the City to follow the orders of the District Magistrate asking the latter to install CCTVs by or before April 19, saying the non-compliance of directive may lead to Penal Action and FIR.
However many small business owners have been expressing their inability to comply with the orders citing the financial costs involved in the installation of the high-tech cameras.
