Srinagar: Top LeT Commander among two Pakistani militants were killed on Sunday in an encounter (military operation) at Beshembar Nagar area of Srinagar city, IGP said.
Moreover, Two cops of JK Police and a CRPF personnel were injured during the encounter.
They have been identified as Adil bhai and Mubashir bhai, residents of Pakistan.
Adil bhai was assigned as the top LeT commander for central Kashmir, local News Agency GNS Quoted IGP.
While one militant was killed in the initial exchange of fire, the second was killed after two hours.
Addressing reporters, Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar confirmed that two Pakistani militants were killed in the gunfight.
"Both of them were involved in the recent attack at Maisuma, in which one CRPF trooper was killed while as another was injured," Mr. Vijay said.
They were being continuously tracked after they attacked in Maisuma, he added.
The house owner’s property will be seized for giving shelter to these militants, he said.
This is the third Pakistani militant killed in Srinagar in a month. On March 11, a Pakistani militant was killed in a brief shootout in Hazatbal area of Kashmir capital.
Kashmir has seen a sudden increase in violence. While the police, paramilitary, and the Indian Army have intensified their operations against the militants, the militants too have launched a series of attacks on government forces, J&K police and non locals.
At least eight targeted killings took place in the month of March alone. All those killed were Kashmiri Muslims. Among these, three were Panchayat members.
