Pir Panchal: The government forces on Wednesday morning launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) following the movement of "suspected people" in the Pir Panchal belt of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, reports said.
“Some locals noticed suspicious movement of some armed people in Poonch town,” sources said.
Acting on the information, a cordon and search operation was launched in Khakha Nawan, Purani Poonch area, they said
Two schools in the town have also been closed, they added.
It is the second military operation in the ‘Jammu’ part of the restive Kashmir region.
Forces are also undertaking Operation (Trinetra) in neighbouring district of Rajouri’s Kandi forests after five army personnel were killed in an explosive attack during an ‘encounter’ last Friday.
Both of the districts of Rajouri and Poonch are close to the LOC Line of Control, a military control line between the Indian- and Pakistani-controlled territories of the former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The operation was going on when the last reports came in from the area.
