Srinagar: Two local militants Zubair Ahmad Mir, resident of Qaimoh, Kulgam and Idrees Ahmad Dar, resident of Kulpora, Kulgam were killed in Nowpora-Kherpora, Trubji area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam.
They were affiliated with Lashker-e-Toiba, police said.
As per police records, the slain duo was categorized and involved in several cases including attacks on Police and forces including the killing of PRIs.
It is pertinent to mention that Zubair Ahmad Mir was active since Aug-2021.
He was trying to revive the militancy folds by recruiting and motivating the gullible youth including slain Idrees Ahmad, as per police.
Earlier, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army’s 1RR and CRPF in the area.
“In order to evacuate the civilians trapped around the encounter site, the joint team ensured the evacuation of all civilians to the safer places,” police added.
“IGP Kashmir termed the encounter as an important operation as the site is very close to highway (Yatra route) and LeT (TRF) has been issuing threats to Yatra,”
