Shopian: Two local militants of LeT (Lashkar-e-Taiba) were killed in an overnight encounter (military operation) at Kanjiullar village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday, police said on Wednesday morning.
Both of the slain have been identified as Tufail Ganai and Jan Mohd Lone, a resident of Shopian.
Inspector-General of Police, Kashmir zone, Vijay Kumar said Jan Mohammad Lone was allegedly involved in the killing of a bank manager in Kulgam district recently and AK47 rifle and a pistol were recovered from the encounter site.

Earlier on Tuesday night, a joint team of Police, army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
He said that as the joint teams of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.
