Srinagar: Two local militants were killed in an encounter (military operation against militants) at Nowpora, Mir Bazar area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday.
They have been identified as Yasir Wani, a resident of Wangund, Kulgam and Raees Manzoor, resident of Chotipora, Shopian.
Moreover, one AK-47 rifle and a Pistol were recovered from encounter site.

A joint CASO (cordon and search operation) was launched by Police, Army (9RR) in the area on specific inputs about the presense of militants, Police said in a statement to The Himalayan Post.
“The joint search party approached towards the suspected spot and the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter,” the statement reads.
Later on CRPF (18Bn) also joined the operation.
As per police records, both of the slain were categorized and part of groups involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police/SF and civilian atrocities.
People are requested to cooperate with Police till the area at encounter site is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials, if any.
