Baramulla: Two local militants from south Kashmir were killed in an encounter (military operation) with government forces in the Pattan area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday and an AKS74U rifle, and a pistol was recovered from their possession, police said.
The slain duo was identified as Yawar Shafi Bhat – a resident of Kalampora area in South Kashmir’s Pulwama and Aamir Hussain Bhat – a resident of Veshro area in Shopian.
However, their age was not revealed by the authorities.

Two encounters broke out between the forces and militants in South Kashmir’s Shopian and north Kashmir’s Baramulla districts in the early hours of Friday.
In North Kashmir’s Pattan; two local militants were killed and militants managed to escape from the Chitragam area of Shopian, as per media reports.
However, after the operation, SP Baramulla Rayees Mohammad Bhat IPS told reporters that the slain militants had come to ‘disrupt’ the ongoing Army Recruitment (Agniveer) in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
“We received an input this morning about the presence of some militants in Yedipora Village, and CASO was launched in the area.
“During searches the hiding militants from a residential house fired upon the search party, which was retaliated triggering off an encounter,” the officer said.
Moreover, SSP Baramulla an AKS74U rifle with three magazines, and a pistol with a Magazine were recovered from them.
“We got inputs that these two militants were given the task to attack the ongoing Army recruitment Rally (Agniveer) in Baramulla,” he said.
Agniveer is India’s new military recruitment system introduced by the Modi government in June this year in which the army (between the ages of 17-and-a-half and 21) will be recruited on a contractual basis for four years.
