Kathua, Sep 11: Two persons were killed and three others injured after a vehicle carrying five people met with an accident in the Sarthal area of Bani tehsil in Kathua district on Friday, officials said.

The injured were shifted to Bani Hospital for treatment. Their condition was not immediately known.

An official said the accident occurred in Sarthal when the vehicle carrying the five occupants met with an accident, resulting in the death of two people and injuries to three others.

Union Minister of State for the Department of Atomic Energy Jitendra Singh said he spoke to Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma after receiving a call from Bani MLA Dalip Singh Parihar regarding the accident.

“Just now spoke to DC Kathua, Sh Rajesh Sharma after receiving a phone call from MLA Sh Dalip Singh Parihar informing about a road accident at Sarthal,” Singh said in a post on X.

He said three of the five passengers were injured and shifted to Bani Hospital, while two “unfortunately lost their lives”.

Singh said appropriate medical aid was being provided to the injured and expressed condolences to the bereaved families. He added that his office was in constant touch with the district administration.

The deceased and injured are believed to be residents of Bhaderwah in Doda district, while their identities and further details are awaited.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated necessary proceedings.
