Anantnag, Sep 2: A tourist was killed after a boulder rolled down a hillside and struck the vehicle he was travelling in on the Khanbal-Pahalgam Road near Bumzoo shrine in Mattan area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday.
An official said the Innova vehicle, bearing registration number JK01AT-8081, was carrying six tourists from Pahalgam towards Anantnag when the boulder suddenly came down from the hillside and hit the vehicle.
One tourist sustained serious injuries in the incident, while the other passengers, including the driver, escaped unhurt, the official said.

The injured tourist was immediately shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag for treatment, where doctors declared him brought dead.
The deceased was identified as R Himansu Prasad Rao, son of R Pala Krishna Rao, a resident of Ganjam district in Odisha.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated necessary proceedings.
