Srinagar: The Department of Wildlife Protection in Central Division Srinagar has decided to close the Dachigam National Park for five days from March 15 to 20 to all visitors to conduct the Hangul (Kashmir Stag) Population Estimation (Hangul Census) 2023 in and around the park.
In a notification, the department asked people not to visit Dachigam Park from March 15 to 20 during the census process.
The decision, the department said, has been taken to ensure the smooth conduct of the Hangul Population Estimation (Hangul Census) 2023 without any disturbance.
The Dachigam National park is located across the Zarbarwan range at an elevation of 3,035 meters and 22 kilometers from Srinagar city. It is meant for the conservation of Kashmir’s national animal, the Kashmir stag, locally called Hangul.
Notably, Hangul is mostly found in dense riverine forests, high valleys, and mountains of the Kashmir valley, Sind Valley, and in the forests of Chenab Valley’s Kishtwar & Bhaderwah.
