Srinagar: Police said three OGWs (Over Ground Workers) have been arrested on Tuesday who were also involved in the killing of Panch at Kulpora area in South Kashmir Kulgam district.
The associates (OGWs) were identified as Nasser Ahmad Wani, son of Bashir Ahmad Wani, resident of Srandoo, Adil Manzoor Rather, son of Manzoor Ahmad Rather, resident of Ashmuji and Majid Mohd Rather, son of Lt. Gh Mohd Rather, resident of Malipora Mirbazar.
Moreover, police said it seized two Grenades and a Pistol with eight Rounds from the above mentioned persons.
A police spokesperson said on March 2, militants shot dead a Panch namely Mohd Yaqoob Dar, a resident of Kulpora Kulgam, investigation in this regard was conducted by a special investigation team.
"During the course of investigation, it was learnt that an active militant of Hizb Farooq Ahmad Bhat who is a resident of Shopian’s Cheki Desend Yaripora had received directions from terror handlers based in Pakistan to target the PRI members of Kulgam," police said in a statement.
On their directions, militant Farooq identified the target and gave direction to another active militant Raja Nadeem Rather, resident of Ashmuji to execute killings with the support of these OGWs, the statement reads.
A police spokesperson stated that these OGWs conducted reccee on the Panch, arranged transport and provided logistics to execute his killing.
Police stated that the module is already linked with (HM) militant module involved in the killing of sarpanch namely Shabir Ahmad Mir, resident of Audoora Kulgam on 11th March of this year.
Police stated that more arrests are expected and the department is working to neutralise militants involved in this heinous crime, reads the statement.
