Srinagar: Police arrested three OGWs (Over Ground Workers) in the Natipora area of Srinagar on Friday.
As per police, the three accused persons are working for TRF (The Resistance Front), a militant group emerged after 5 August, 2019.
“Three terror associates working with the banned terror outfit (TRF), an offshoot of the proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were arrested at a checkpoint,” Police said in a statement.
“Acting on a specific intelligence, the police team established a checkpoint at Harnabal Natipora, leading to the arrest of the three terrorist associates,” the statement reads.
The individuals have been identified as Imran Ahmad Najar, son of Late Abdul Rehman Najar, a resident of Bulbul Bagh Baramulla; Waseem Ahmad Matta, son of Tariq Ahmad Matta, residing in Qamarwari Srinagar; and Wakeel Ahmad Bhat, son of Nazir Ahmad Bhat, from Pazalpora Bijbehara.
It appears that the accused belong to three different districts, representing the northern, southern, and central parts of Kashmir.
During the operation, the police also recovered three hand grenades, 10 pistol rounds, and 25 AK-47 rounds, along with other incriminating evidences, reads the statement further.
“Wakeel Ahmad Bhat, one of the arrested individuals, had previously been involved with another banned terrorist outfit, the Islamic State of Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK), and had served a two-year jail term before being recently released on bail from Central Jail,” Police mentioned in the statement.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the trio had acquired the explosive substances and ammunition from active terrorists affiliated with TRF. Their intention was to carry out terrorist activities within the city of Srinagar, posing a significant threat to public safety, it added.
The police have registered a case, FIR number 46/23, under various sections of the Explosive Act, Arms Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) at Police Station Chanapora.
