Srinagar: Three local TRF (The Resistance Front) militants were killed in an overnight gun-battle with government forces at Nowgam area of Srinagar outskirts, police said on Wednesday.
Addressing media, Inspector General of Police (IGP) for Kashmir region Vijay Kumar said two of them have been identified as Adil Teli and Saqib Tantray – residents of Shopian, south Kashmir and the third one is most probably Umer Teli. We have called Umer’s family for identification,” the IGP said.
IGP also said the three neutralised militants were allegedly involved in the killing of Sarpanch Sameer Ahmed Bhat of Khonmoh.

IGP noted that the police have consequently neutralised all modules involved in the killing of Sarpanchs.
“We also busted the module involved in the killing of a CRPF man and a TA soldier in Budgam. Only once case was pending, that of Sarpanch Sameer, and with today’s encounter, that too stands solved,” he said.
“One AK-47 riffle, and two pistols were recovered from them.” He added.
“Police laid siege around Nowgam area after receiving inputs over the presence of militants on Tuesday night.”
“During the search operation, militants fired upon the troops triggering an encounter.”
“The operation took time as we first evacuated civilians to avoid collateral damage,” he said.
“This module was targeting Panchayat representatives as their masters don’t want grassroots democracy to flourish here,” he concluded.
