Ten Army personnel killed in Doda accident

Doda, Jan 22 โ€” Ten Indian Army personnel were killed and eleven others injured after a military vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Chenab valleyโ€™s Doda district on Thursday morning, officials said.

The accident occurred at Khannitop on the Bhaderwahโ€“Chamba road when an Army Casper vehicle was moving for an operational task, according to official sources.

โ€œThe vehicle veered off the road and fell nearly 400 metres into a ravine,โ€ an official said.

โ€œTen Army personnel died on the spot.โ€

The injured were initially shifted to the Sub-District Hospital in Bhaderwah and later airlifted to the Armyโ€™s Command Hospital in Udhampur for specialised treatment, officials said.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the incident and said the nation stood with the families of the deceased.

โ€œWe will always remember the outstanding service and supreme sacrifice of our brave Army personnel,โ€ Sinha said in a statement.

He said senior officials had been directed to ensure the best possible medical care to the injured and added, โ€œMy prayers are with them for a speedy recovery.โ€ย
