Ganderbal: In a demonstration of frustration over prolonged water scarcity, residents of Sindhbal area in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district protested on Saturday against the Jal Shakti (water) Department over water scarcity in the area.

As per reports, the protest was predominantly led by women.

“Our locality has endured a month-long water shortage. We are forced to drink contaminated water,” protestors said while urging administration to intervene.

Responding to the situation, an official from the Jal Shakti Department said that the water supply issues have been exacerbated by a handful of residents employing water booster pumps, disrupting the equitable distribution of drinking water to neighboring areas.

In a bid to rectify the situation, the department has initiated strict action against those responsible for using these pumps, he said.

The official stated, "our task force teams have visited the site and confiscated the equipment. This crackdown will persist to alleviate the suffering of the local population."
