Bandipora: In a troubling incident at a government girls’ school in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, a lecturer has been booked for allegedly tearing a student’s hijab (headscarf) within the school premises.
News agency KNO quoted an official saying that the victim filed a formal complaint, stating that the accused lecturer had approached her while she was in the classroom and forcibly removed and tore her hijab.
The victim revealed that the lecturer had been subjecting her and her classmates to harassment for some time, but this incident marked a distressing escalation.
She stated, "The lecturer had been harassing her and her classmates for a while, but today he crossed the line and forcibly removed her Hijab."
Furthermore, the student disclosed that she had previously discussed the issue of harassment with her parents.
“On one occasion, when her mother visited the school to address the matter, the accused lecturer allegedly confronted her, shouted at her, and questioned her presence inside the school premises.”
In response, a police official has stated that a case has been registered under section 354 IPC (Indian Penal Code) and the 9/10 POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act at the Bandipora police station. The investigation into the matter is currently ongoing.
