Srinagar: Over 30-40 separatist activists, including ex-militants of JKLF and other groups, have been detained by J&K Police in a raid at a hotel in Srinagar on Sunday, reports said.
The detainees include Firdaus Ahmad Shah, Maulvi Abbas Ansari’s son Masroor Abbas Ansari, Prof Abdul Gani Bhat’s son Jehangir Ahmad Bhat and ex-JKLF militant Yasin Bhat.
Srinagar Police said the meeting was called to revive separatism in the valley.
On Sunday night, at around 11 PM; Srinagar police tweeted: “A Search was conducted on basis of credible info about meeting of some ex-trts of JKLF & erstwhile separatists in a hotel in Srinagar. They were brought to Kothibagh PS for verification.Inquiry has started, prima facie it came out that they were planning to revive JKLF & hurriyat.”
At 10:22 PM, Senior journalist Ahmed Ali Fayaz tweeted: “30-40 separatist activists, including ex-militants of JKLF and other groups, also including Firdaus Ahmad Shah, Maulvi Abbas Ansari’s son Masroor Abbas Ansari, Prof Abdul Gani Bhat’s son Jehangir Ahmad Bhat and ex-JKLF militant Yasin Bhat, who had arranged a get-together and lunch at a hotel in Srinagar civil lines, have been detained at Police Station Kothibagh. Formal arrest is still not confirmed officially. Awaiting the official version.”
The news agency quoted sources saying: “A meeting was being conducted at a hotel in the jurisdiction of Police Station Kothibagh, in the meantime a top officer’s team of Srinagar police after receiving specific information raided the hotel and apprehended many leaders including Masroor Abbas Ansari, Yaseen Bhat of JKLF, Syed Rehman Shams, Firdous Shah, Sajad Hussain, Fayaz Bachoo, Hamid Bhat, Asif Parmoo, Irfan Rouf, Basharat, Junaid and many others.”
