Srinagar: Rajouri Chikri Wood Craft and Mushqbudji Rice have received the Geographical Indication (GI) Tag, a form of intellectual property that recognizes products’ origin and distinct qualities.
The GI tagging process was initiated by NABARD in December 2020, with support from the Department of Handicrafts & Handloom and Department of Agriculture.
Chikri Wood Craft is known for its intricate carving and is made from honey-colored Chikri wood found in Pir Panchal region’s Rajouri district.
Mushqbudji Rice is a premium aromatic variety grown in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, known for its unique taste and aroma.
Chief General Manager, NABARD, Bhallamudi Sridhar, thanked the concerned departments of the government and congratulated all the GI applicant organizations.
“Earlier, in March this year, Basohli Painting of Kathua and Ladakh Wood Carving also got GI tag through NABARD support,” he said.
He added that five more products of J&K are in the final stages of getting GI Tag.
The GI tags will protect these products from unauthorized use and promote their exports, contributing to the economic growth of the region, he added.
