Srinagar: The Metrological department forecasted widespread rains in Kashmir valley for the next two days on Saturday and a possibility of light rains in Pir Panchal, Chenab and Jammu regions.
For subsequent two days widespread light to moderate rain and thunderstorm is expected in J&K, concerned official said.
“Rain and thunderstorm is most likely to commence from Saturday evening at many places of Kashmir, Zojila-Drass etc. and by night Jammu region,” he said.
From May 7-8, he said, rain and thunderstorm was expected at many places of J&K. “Hailstorm and gusty wind is also possible at scattered places.”
From May 9-12, he said, “mainly dry” weather was expected.
He asked farmers to postpone spraying of orchards and harvesting of crops till May 8th.
The official also urged tourists to keep warm clothes and eatables ready as “weather will be cold till May 8.”
Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 10.4°C against 9.6°C on the previous night and it was 0.7°C above normal for the capital.
In South Kashmir; Qazigund recorded a low of 8.0°C against 7.8°C on the previous night and it was below normal by 0.5°C for the gateway town of Kashmir and the top tourist destination Pahalgam logged a low of 5.4°C against 3.6°C on previous night, above normal by 0.5° C.
Kokernag recorded a low of 8.2°C against 7.0°C on the previous night, below normal by 0.2°C.
While the world famous skiing resort in North Kashmir’s Gulamrg recorded a low of 4.0°C against 2.2°C on previous night, below normal by 0.3°C, Kupwara logged 7.4°C, the same as on the previous night and below normal by 1.0°C.
The Temperature at the harshest winter zone in North Kashmir’s LOC (Line of Control) village, Gurez recorded minus 2 degrees Celsius with a 90% chance of snow showers. Snow is accumulating 1 to 3 inches tonight, as per the Weather underground report.
“Today’s temperature is forecast to be MUCH COOLER than yesterday,” it said.
In Jammu, the mercury settled at 19.7°C against 17.3°C on the previous night and below normal by 2.9°C and Katra, situated at the foot of the Trikuta Mountains, where the Hindu holy shrine of Vaishno Devi is located, logged 16.1°C, below normal by 3.1°C.
Pir Panchal region’s Banihal recorded a low of 9.3°C, below normal by 0.8°C, and Batote 11.6°C, below normal by 0.9°C.
Also, Chenab region’s Bhaderwah logged 10.0°C, below normal by 0.8°C.
Ladakh’s Capital Leh recorded a low of minus 0.4°C, he added.
