Srinagar: Two Local militants who had recently gone missing were killed in an overnight encounter (military operation) in Mitrigam area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday.
Inspector General of Police Mr. Vijay Kumar said both of the militants have been identified as Aijaz Hafiz and Shahid Ayub, 02 AK 47 rifles have been also recovered.
The slain duo belonged to Al Badr outfit and were involved in series of attacks on outside labourers in Pulwama in the month of March-April 2022, he said.
Earlier, the police department said 2-3 militants including a foreign militant of JeM outfit were trapped inside cordon.
While Aijaz, 22-year-old Civil engineering student and a resident of Dalipora area in South Kashmir’s Pulwama went missing on January 10, 2022, Shahid Ayoub, a resident of Pulwama’s Murran area disappeared in the ongoing month of holy Ramadan, reported News Portal Kashmiriyat.
Reportedly, on Wednesday evening a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in the area, Poilce informed.
As the joint team of forces zeroed towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired on the joint team, which was retaliated triggering off a gunfight, police added.
