Srinagar: Fifteen persons have been arrested by police over stone pelting post Nowgam encounter sanitization and asked people to stay away from the gun-battle sites.
As per the SOP, the site was being cleared to ensure the safety of citizens, however, a large unruly mob assembled from adjacent areas of Shankerpora Wanabal carrying lathies and stones in their hands and pelted stones on the deployed men, police said in a statement.
In order to disperse the mob, smoke shells were used, as per the SOPs, the statement reads.

Accordingly Case relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Nowgam and 15 identified persons were also arrested in the said case, it reads.
Srinagar Police, requests all citizens to stay away from encounter sites to ensure their safety, keeping in view the likelihood of leftover explosives from the militants, it added.
