Police Fire at SUV After Driver Evades Ramban Check Post, Occupants Escape

Vehicle later recovered abandoned near Nashri; investigation and search operation underway

Ramban, Aug 7: Police fired three rounds at an SUV after its driver allegedly sped past a security check post in Ramban district on Friday morning, officials said. The vehicle was later recovered abandoned, while its occupants managed to flee before security forces reached the spot.

According to officials, the Scorpio was travelling from Srinagar towards Jammu when it was signalled to stop at the police check post near JP Gate in Chanderkote. Instead of complying, the driver allegedly ignored the signal and accelerated towards the Nashri side.

โ€œPolice personnel fired three rounds at the vehicle in an attempt to stop it,โ€ an official said.

A search operation was immediately launched to trace the vehicle and those travelling in it. The SUV was subsequently intercepted and recovered, but its occupants had already escaped.

โ€œThe vehicle was later intercepted and recovered, but the occupants had fled from the spot before security forces could apprehend them,โ€ the official added.

Police have registered the incident and launched an investigation to ascertain the identity of the occupants and the circumstances under which they fled the checkpoint.
