Srinagar, May 4 — Police on Monday demolished an alleged illegal structure belonging to a drug accused in the Noorbagh area of Qamarwari, citing its link to proceeds of narcotics trafficking.
In a statement, police identified the accused as Mohammad Irfan Sheikh alias Iff, a resident of Pamposh Colony, Palpora Noorbagh, and described him as a repeat offender in cases registered under the NDPS Act.
Officials said the structure was raised without lawful authority on land allegedly developed using proceeds from drug trafficking. “Investigation and verification have revealed that the structure was constructed illegally using funds generated from narcotics activities, in violation of revenue laws,” the statement said.
The accused is named in multiple cases, including FIR No. 134/2024 under Sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Safakadal police station, and FIR No. 48/2025 under Section 8/21 of the Act at Sangam police station.
Police said inputs also point to the involvement of associates and family members of the accused in separate NDPS cases across the Valley, indicating a wider network linked to drug peddling.
“The demolition was carried out after following due legal process and completion of all codal formalities, in coordination with the concerned authorities,” the statement added.
The action was taken as part of the ongoing anti-narcotics campaign in the region, with police reiterating a strict stance against drug-related activities.
