Rajouri, Aug. 6: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday visited flash flood-hit areas of Rajouri district, including Bella Colony and Behrote Aitti, where he met affected families and assured comprehensive relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction for those impacted by the July 19 floods.
Reviewing the ongoing rescue, restoration and rehabilitation efforts, the Chief Minister said the government remains committed to supporting every affected family and ensuring timely assistance across the district.
“Our immediate priority during the July 19 flash floods was to minimise the loss of human lives,” Omar Abdullah told reporters during the visit. Expressing grief over the deaths of four people, he praised the district administration for its swift response.
“Had the administration not acted swiftly that night, the number of casualties could have been much higher,” he said.
The Chief Minister said restoration work is being carried out on a war footing across Rajouri. “Electricity supply has been restored almost completely, while efforts are underway to revive damaged drinking water supply schemes of the Jal Shakti Department,” he said.
Assuring financial and rehabilitation support, Omar Abdullah said families whose houses were damaged would receive compensation as per eligibility. He added that those who lost land to the floods would be provided alternate plots to rebuild their homes.
He further said farmers who suffered extensive losses to agricultural land and crops would receive necessary assistance, including free ration for a period ranging from six months to one year.
