Srinagar: Authorities have once again disallowed Friday prayers at the historic Jama Masjid in Kashmir capital, Srinagar placing Mirwaiz- Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq under house arrest.
In a statement, the Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar expressed deep regret and surprise, stating that the early morning closure of the central mosque’s doors and the subsequent notification to the Auqaf administration that Friday prayers would not proceed.
The Auqaf strongly condemned the administration’s decision to replace Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest, especially following his recent release from August 5, 2019 detention spanning over four years, it reads.
